From Fashion to Flowers

Alice, the Founder of Wick & Tallow, introduced me to Charlotte and her gorgeous flowers.
Charlotte Wood Wildwood Flowers
After years of designing fashion collections for the likes of Burberry and All Saints, Charlotte chose to follow her heart and a new career in floristry. She went on to train at McQueens and worked with the industry’s top florists before launching Wild Wood London. With her exquisite eye for detail and a love of the unique, Charlotte and the Wild Wood team create bespoke floral designs for every occasion, using seasonal flowers and foliage lovingly selected from leading suppliers.

I was lucky to grab a an hour of her time and some chat whilst she was busy amongst her flowers.

What's your favourite flower to work with?
I love working with delphiniums they look fantastic in large scale urn designs and when they are season I have them at home weekly.

Norma Jean rose variety is divine. If I could bottle that scent I would.

Who do you rate as a vase designer and why?
Gaux make beautiful vases, quite architectural and have beautifully executed finish.

Any views on the old fashioned oasis which my mother dutifully soaks and fills for the annual church window flowers ?!
Oasis is still used quite prominently within floristry as it does help to achieve certain large scale designs.

How do you compose your flower arrangements?
It depends on the season, the vase or container, the space the design is going into, will it be viewed at all angles or just from the front.

Do you listen to music when you work? If so ... who floats your boat and why?
I have been listening to Dua Lipa’s album on repeat recently. I adore her voice and it certainly lifts my energy levels.

If you were to take one flower/piece of foliage of your business with you to a desert island what would it be?
Olive foliage, it reminds of family holidays in the Mediterranean.

A moment when you stood back and thought wow ….?
When we created a 10ft by 8 ft flower wall at The Ritz hotel for a fashion week presentation. We used six different roses and it was such a statement backdrop.

A time when you looked up and thought oops ….?
When we were installing large floral ball designs to the ceiling of a marquee and the weather was extremely hot. I had a slight panic that the flowers would die before the wedding. It worked out beautifully, thankfully!

Gold or silver?
At the moment I am really drawn to gold and have ordered beautiful metal gold stands to place centre pieces onto.

White Lady or Black Russian?
White lady, although I am more of a champagne or English sparkling wine drinker these days.
